Original Item: Only One Available. This very nice condition Heer summer tunic is fabricated from a sturdy lightweight canvas material, and looks to originally have been more of an olive green color, but wear and exposure have faded it to a lovely tan color. The interior and under the pocket flaps seem to retain much more of the original color. The front has vertical closure of 5 pebbled aluminum buttons, and there are also two hook and hoop closures for the collar. There are four pockets on the front, one on each breast and larger ones at the waist on both sides, each designed with a decorative pleat and pebbled buttons. All of the buttons are sewn directly to the tunic, and look to be maker marked on the back.

It is adorned with the usual rank and branch insignia used on German tunics. The attractive Army breast eagle is the correct officer's silver bullion hand embroidered type on a dark green background, and is very neatly hand stitched to the chest in a fashion typical of wartime German tailor work. There are also some thread loops on the left breast where a medal bar was once displayed.

The collar is wrapped in a dark-green wool, has officer's field litzen collar patches on each side, which are woven from silver bullion thread with a dark green background matching the collar. The colored stripes on each are Medizinblau (Medical Blue), the Waffenfarbe (corps color) for the Heer Sanitätstruppe (Military medical service). The collar definitely shows wear from use and age, as well as some moth damage. There are some holes as well as some repairs, and a lot of the fuzzy "nap" of the fabric has been worn away. There is also wear to the litzen as well.

The button retained Stabsoffizier schulterklappen (Field-grade Officer shoulder boards) of this tunic are constructed with two rows of fine silver flatware "Russia Braid" double piping, which are plaited together to form a loop around the buttonhole. They have the correct Medical Blue piping around the edges. There are no rank "pips", indicating the rank of Oberstabsarzt (Senior Staff Surgeon), a rank equivalent to a Major in other branches and in the U.S. Army.

Overall condition is very nice, with a fantastic look. There is wear to all of the insignia, as expected, and some oxidation on the metal components such as the buttons. There are some small scattered holes, but no major damage or other issues.

A really nice "salty" summer white Medical Officers uniform in great condition, with a great service worn look! More than ready to display!
