Original Item: Only One Available. Sicherheitsdienst, full title Sicherheitsdienst des Reichsführers-SS (Security Service of the Reichsführer-SS), or SD, was the intelligence agency of the SS and the NSDAP Party in Germany. Originating in 1931, the organization was the first NSDAP intelligence organization to be established and was considered a sister organization with the Gestapo (formed in 1933) through integration of SS members and operational procedures. The SD was administered as an independent SS office between 1933 and 1939. That year the SD was transferred over to the Reich Security Main Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt; RSHA), as one of its seven departments. Its first director, Reinhard Heydrich, intended for the SD to bring every single individual within the Third Reich's reach under "continuous supervision".
Following Germany's defeat in World War II, the tribunal at the Nuremberg trials officially declared the SD a criminal organization, along with the rest of Heydrich's RSHA (including the Gestapo) both individually and as branches of the SS in the collective. Heydrich had been assassinated in 1942; his successor, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg trials, sentenced to death and hanged in 1946.
This tunic is in great condition, but is missing items unfortunately. The sleeve eagle as well as both shoulder boards were removed, but it does not subtract from the beauty of it. The tunic features four pockets with scalloped flaps and pebbled aluminum buttons. There is only one award present on the uniform and it is a “buttonhole” ribbon for a War Merit Cross and is affixed through the first buttonhole.
The lower left sleeve features a lovely SD insignia wool diamond with very minor stitching detach. The collar tabs denote the rank of SS Obertruppführer. The left tab is two rank pips with two silver bullion lines beneath it and the right tab being blank. Both tabs are in lovely undamaged condition.
The overall condition of the uniform is good but does have minor moth nips throughout the uniform. There is no extensive damage or wear present and the inside lining is slightly stained.
This is a wonderful opportunity to add a lovely uniform to your collections. Comes more than ready for display!
